Tom LaMonica was the founder of Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center. Tom was a community member who enjoyed being involved. Although he taught at Friends School of Baltimore, he volunteered his time and even the Genesee Valley facilities to the Hereford community. For years, he helped with the Hereford High School football and lacrosse teams. Tom also allowed Hereford Rec Council to use the Genesee Valley Lacrosse fields. Tom was a man who focused on giving back to the community. When Tom passed away in 2010, the community was able to give back to his family in the simplest of ways. The LaMonica family created a scholarship in memory of Tom at Hereford High School, the scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who expresses a time when they had to "endeavor to persevere" which is one of many life lessons Tom taught many of us. The Tom LaMonica Memorial Car, Truck, & Bike Show was created in order to raise money for the scholarship. This is a way for the community to come together and give to each other.
